The identification of the apiary and the colonies contained therein is very important for institutional monitoring of bee stocks, for disease prevention and control and also for the beekeeper to keep track of treatments and movements of colonies. A univocal assignment of identification codes to the apiary and the hives is also requested as a mandatory requirement by the authorities for the national database. The apiary code is assigned by the authorities through the logging system whereas the codification of the hives is carried out by the beekeeper.
