The distance between different apiaries is important in order to ensure bees have sufficient foraging pasture as well as reduce the risk of disease transmission like varroa or foulbroods. Sufficient distance from other apiaries is pivotal in breeding and selection programmes. Adequate distancing of apiaries also reduces the impact of the presence of managed bees in favour of wild pollinators.
